The University of Washington 'Varsity 8 training for the annual Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship Regatta, at Poughkeepsie, NY, on June 21, 1913. The Washington crew were 1913 champions of the Pacific coast, and their entry into the blue ribbon event made the regatta of national interest. The Washington 'Varsity 8 came from behind, and took third place in the bid for the Varsity Challenge Cup. —The Youngstown (Ohio) Vindicator, New York Times The UW Varsity crew for the 1913 Poughkeepsie race was: #1 Bow Captain Ed Taylor; #2 Ed Leader #3 Elmer Leader; #4 George Hutton; #5 Max Walske; #6 Wilson Lee; #7 A.C. Campbell; Stroke Henry Zimmerman; Coxswain Paul Hammer. The Head Crew Coach was Hiram (HB) Conibear [1]
