The largest outfit was the 323rd Field Artillery, 54 officers and 1,327 man. The 120th Machine Gun Battalion also returned. Other units Included the 158th Field Artillery brigade headquarters, the 837th and 839th Casual Companies. Major General Leroy S. Lyon, a casual; Brigadier General Adrian S. Fleming of the 158th Field' Artillery brigade and Brigadier General Logan of the Marine Corps were among the passengers."

Lieutenant General Robert Lee Bullard (January 5, 1861 – September 11, 1947) was a senior officer of the United States Army. He was involved in conflicts in the American Western Frontier, the Philippines, and World War I, where he commanded the 1st Infantry Division (nicknamed "The Big Red One") during the Battle of Cantigny while serving on the Western Front. The "unidentified woman" in the photo is Amelia Earhart aboard the SS President Roosevelt during her return to the United States after her first flight - as a passenger - across the Atlantic in 1928. Sitting next to her is Captain of the President Roosevelt, Harry Manning. Earhart and Manning would quickly form a friendship aboard the ship, and she would eventually ask him to be her navigator for her initial attempt at circumnavigating the globe in 1937. This attempt was aborted in Hawaii, after Earhart ground looped her Lockheed 10E Electra (NR16020) at Luke Field on Ford Island, Pearl Harbor on March 20, 1937. Manning suffered only a bruised elbow during the accident. This incident caused significant damage to the aircraft, which would require repair, delaying Earhart's trip an additional three months. Due to the delay (and some claim other factors), Manning was unable to join Earhart on this second (ill-fated) attempt.
