    Philip Cowman Census he is single and living with 4 others (assistants in the shop and a commercial traveller) in house 12 in Selskar Street, which is just down the road from where the picture was taken. I wonder if any of these men are standing outside of Cowmans shop?

    According to this discussion forum Thom's directory has Nobletts there from 1922 through to 1956 and Laird's from 1922 through to 1941 (but not 1956) - presume these records aren't exhaustive though and they may have both been there earlier than that.
