when the 115ft spire of st johns was erected it was the 4th tallest structure in Australia! st james and port arthur church spires were higher + the chimney at canterbury mills.

The photo was taken from the middle of John Street. The cross street in the photo is Argyle Street, now the main street. The building on the right, closer to the road, is pretty much the same. The nice, wide road remains, too!
