Theodore Roosevelt III (/ˈroʊzəvɛlt/ ROH-zə-velt), often known as Theodore Jr. (September 13, 1887 – July 12, 1944) was an American government, business, and military leader. He was the eldest son of President Theodore Roosevelt and First Lady Edith Roosevelt. Roosevelt is known for his World War II service, including the directing of troops at Utah Beach during the Normandy landings, for which he received the Medal of Honor.

Looking at the neighboring photos in the Bain collection at LoC, it appears that there was a large crowd of family and dignitaries on board. The event is likely that described in the New York Times of April 12, 1925 timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1925/04/12/10704251... Theodore Roosevelt, Jr and his brother Kermit sailed on April 11, 1925 on the Leviathan to Southampton on the first stage of a trip to hunt for endangered animals on behalf of the Field Museum in Chicago. The NYT article mentions that his wife and children were on board to say goodbye. The Alaska Daily Empire. April 27, 1925, Page 5, chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn84020657/1925-04-27/ed-... has a photo of Theodore and Kermit, with description, "Colonel Theodore Roosevelt. Jr., and his brother, Captain Kermit Roosevelt, were pictured as they sailed from New York on the S.S. Leviathan for Southampton, England, where they will be met by the rest of the party which will Journey into the depths of Turkestan, in Asia, on a special hunting expedition for the Field Museum of Chicago." A general question about photographs of the Bain News Service. Are the names of photographers known other than Mr. Bain himself who contributed to the Bain New Service.

Good question. Sadly, it seems most of the photographers are unknown. From the Collection Overview page for the Bain Collection in the Prints & Photographs Online Catalog (www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/ggbain/), you can use the left side menus to browse by "Creator/Related Name" which reveals a small number of other creators. We attributed the majority to the News Service broadly, as there was very little evidence of individual creation.
