Talma and Co.[photographer] was a commercial photographic company active in Australia. The firm had studios in Melbourne (119 Swanston St.), and Sydney (374 George Street). [1]  They were renowned for their theatrical photography.

I have heard of her before, I think there has been a movie made about her, not sure. She was really famous back then.

Dear dblackmore, We don't know much about Ada Ferrar. Her career was mainly in Shakespeare on the stage. Much more famous was Geraldine Farrar, one of the world's leading sopranos early in the 20th century who often sang with Caruso at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and who made many silent films (1915-1920). Later she appeared on television and in a few sound films.

Oh fame ... it is so fleeting ;-)

There are some who might say that Ada's sister, Beatrice Ferrar, was more famous than Ada ... both were English born actresses; both studied under Sir Frank Benson, and both starred in London and on Broadway. Ada toured throughout Australia for several years starring in a repertory company with Julius Knight. [1]

Although later in life she wore other couture on the stage and in life, Melba usually wore clothes by Worth. Her teacher Mathilde Marchesi had impressed on her the importance of good clothes. Englishman Charles Frederick Worth is generally considered the first couture designer and he established his premises in Paris in the mid-1850's Reference; Melba, the voice of Australia / by Thérèse Radic. I spend my youth in Brussels-ANDERLECHT (Belgium) Not far from home there was a "" Nellie Melba Avenue "" , where my mathematic teacher lived. She gave her name to a famous classic dessert : Pêche Melba (Peach Melba)
