Kate Stobbs, arrested for stealing from her landlady

    "ALLEGED LARCENY AT NORTH SHIELDS -- To-day at North Shields, Kate Stobbs and Robert Stobbs, 73 Howdon Road, were charged with stealing, or receiving the same, well knowing them to be stolen, a quilt, two blankets, a pair of boots, a plane, saw, vest, and other articles valued at £3 9s, from a dwelling house, 73 Howdon Road, the property of Barbara J. Bowman, on June 8th. -- The evidence showed that the defendants had furnished apartments from the prosecutrix, and the female defendant pawned the goods mention. -- The male defendant, who denied any knowledge of the thefts, was cautioned and dismissed, and the female defendant was committed for fourteen days." --- Shields Gazette, 11 Jun 1903, page 3.

    I've eyeballed the 6" and 25" maps of Rockingham, and there are no buildings labelled Kennels as far as I can tell.

    spelio That's all very interesting. We hold a copy of that book in our collection. It's fascinating. Thanks for telling us about it..the images of the Tracksons all come from our collection but the publication of the book pre-dates most of the staff who currently work here.
