O Mac That was my gut feel as well. Opp corner to American College and Davenport was my guess. And I was hoping to compare frontages (and chimney patterns) on the lefthand side of "Clare Street" though before declaring. However the protruding bay/balcony put me off. As did the bricked up arched window on top floor of same building. But the main concern was the fact that each house is three windows "wide" in this shot. (But pretty much everything on Clare street is [now] 2 windows "wide").

I think I recognise the unusual projecting window in that picture. Might it be Harcourt Street, with the cabs parked on Clonmel Street? I'm pretty sure the corner building & the bay window match. This wider shot from the National Library of Ireland is older (~1893), but on the largest size, you can see that Grogan's Butcher is still in #5.

The building to the right was an Army & Navy Boot store then, hence BOO in this picture.

Here is Joseph Grogan (victualler) in the 1901 census. He didn't live over the shop - but was well-off enough to live up the hill in a residential area. By the 1911 census he is listed as "merchant", and still has several domestic staff in-house...
