107muassociation.weebly.com/ 107 MU was a British RAF station on the Suez Canal. These boats bear the "K" that for many years identified British (UK) sailing boats for racing. So the British servicemen had brought some sailing boats out for recreation. Edwin Newman served with the RAF.

According to discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4100748 "107 Maintenance Unit, [was] formed at Geneifa (later renamed Kasfareet), Egypt, December 1940." www.rafkasfareet1953-56.com/ indicates that 107MU was closed down in 1956. So the date is no earlier than December 1940 and no later than 1956. A relaxed picture like this seems likely to be after the Battle of El Alamein in 1942. Newman was in the Middle East for a long while, but I haven't been able to find when he left.
