On board photo of the White Star Line built the Ceramic in 1913, a giant liner then for the Australian service. It carried troops to the conflict zones in World War 1, served on the White Star passenger and cargo service between GB and Australia and New Zealand, and was torpedoed in 1942.

These streamer shots are great. I was just looking at the streamer photo in the SJ Hood book today and it brought back memories of standing above the crowds holding the end of a streamer.

Mangrove Rat beachcomber australia Hi, thanks for the information and that wonderful map! What detail! So useful in terms of understanding the shipping industry in Sydney. Looks like you're right beachcomber and it makes sense seeing as that was where the White Star Line's wharf was. Judging by the fashion, it is likely that these images were taken in the 1920s. Stay tuned for more of these images. We think Sam Hood may have liked photographing the streamers...
