  John Brown was the servant who became close to Queen Victoria after the death of Prince Albert. Their relationship was the subject of the 1997 movie "Mrs. Brown," starring Dame Judi Dench and Billy Connolly. "Much gossip attached to the unlikely relationship and much animosity generated by those who resented the trust placed in the 'low-born' Brown by the Queen.   The cap badge seems to be a rampant lion on a crossed ribbon.

  London Scottish, possibly. Kilt, badge and sporran all seem to match. That may be true for many regiments though.

  Please not EVERY man in this shot is wearing a waistcoat.
  The horizontal striped stockings are a bit much for my taste but then I never was one to follow the fashion of the moment.
