History repeats with the new swine-avian-human flu' of 2009 , Mexican origin. That 1917-19 global 'Spanish influenza' killed many in N.Z, several thousand had a burial-memorial in Waikumete Cemetry , West Auckland .A third of the population of W.Sa'moa ,thousands, were lost from transmission from a sailing ship from NZ.

The boys were first cousins. Don Hoover’s father, Frank Hoover, was a professional photographer. Don’s three year old brother died from the flu and pneumonia in February 1919. Joe Sistrunk sold the weekly paper “Grit,” and he and Don in this photo are going out to sell papers.
