Miss Smylie - "Bo Peep of Devonshire", "Sweet Joan of Minoro"? (LOC)

  • Pixel Wrangler said:
This has been described in The New York Times as Miss Marjorie Smylie and her dog "Bo Peep of Devonshire". Bo Peep was shown at the Toy Spaniel Club of America's ninth annual exhibition, held on December 1, 1911, at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. Bo Beep was also shown at the Pekingese Club of America's show, December 1, 1913, at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. No reference was made to what is presumed to be the other dog in the photograph – "Sweet Joan of Minoro" – which may be the exception proving the rule that "every dog has their day" ;-)   "Minoro" may also be a typo. Marjorie Smylie is the daughter of Mrs. Benjamin Griffen (nèe Julia Ely) and her first husband, Major Charles Albert Smylie.   Mrs. Griffen later divorced Benjamin Griffen after seven years of marriage.
