I remember when this was quite the operation, and then it all closed rather suddenly, around 1965. Sulphide was a small place, but when the business and people left, it because almost eerily quiet.

At Brackenridge, four electric arc furnaces melt stainless and other specialty materials for subsequent refining in a 125-ton argon-oxygen decarburization (AOD) vessel which feeds a continuous caster. Slabs and other specialty steel ingots are hot rolled on a six-stand hot strip mill for shipment to other plants. Brackenridge also finishes certain stainless steel, silicon electrical steel and other specialty alloy sheet and strip.
