I have a book about this with all the photos. And I can't forget the sad story about Mrs. Chippy the cat and the poor puppies who were killed because of Shackleton.

AURORA berthed in Sydney Harbour, Circular Quay West, before Ernest Shackleton's Antarctic expedition

Terrific photo! At Circular Quay West, where the Overseas Passenger Terminal now is. About 11/12/1914 according to the SMH of that date - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/15556912 . Amused to see the Shell Benzine delivered by horses!

beachcomber australia We were very excited when we found this one, particularly as it hadn't yet been catalogued as AURORA! So now we can add to our Antarctic images. We were also amused to see Shell take advantage of an advertising opportunity 1914-style :)

Can anyone remember who it was who was left in charge of the Aurora & the Ross Sea party while Shackleton & his party in the Endurance were over in the Weddell Sea direction?

Hi tumpshy! Some good info on Ross Sea Party personnel over at Antarcticguide.com: www.antarcticguide.com/about-antarctica/antarctic-history...
