Surnames which were connected to various other industries on The Tyne. Shipbuilding and engines comes to mind. They all look as if they would never take no for an answer!

Looks like the dessert table

i did a series of paintings from this photo( and other russell lee shots) last summer. not only are these pictures beautiful but they add insight into the hardships of the dustbowl and depression. it is great that the library of congress is doing this.

My girlfriend and I drove through Pie Town, NM, on Rt. 60 on December 29, 2008, which was just before I stumbled across this series of photos. We had just left the VLA Observatory and were on our way to Meteor Crater, AZ and I only managed to get one photo: To be honest, I didn't even know the place existed until seeing it on the map while driving but was thrilled to see these wonderful photos soon after passing through. Plus, I'm happy to actually see pies in the Pie Town photographs!

The photo is mislabeled. His name is Percy D SIVERD. He was the 1912 tennis champion of Pennsylvania. He came from Pittsburgh. I also articles in the NY Times in which he played in Palm Beach. He won that championship in 1912 as well but withdrew in 1913 with cramps.

Percy Dwight Siverd (March 6, 1889 - February 14, 1974) was the 1911 U.S. Men's Clay Court finalist and Pennsylvania champion in 1912 I started an entry for him in Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percy_D._Siverd
