Only eight have arrived but the rest of the [allotted] 20 is expected soon. Looking them over, left to right, are George Stout, Scooter dealer; J.W. Richardson, a mail carrier and future rider; Leo Stephens, Post Office regional representative, and Dick Sutton, assistant superintendent of mails."

These are Cushman Mailsters. Notice the sign at upper left. They were built in Lincoln, Nebraska. Cushman also made a variety of 2-wheeled motor scooters. Search "Cushman Scooter."

Jacques Lebleu These definitely look like the Autoped. See Page 8 of www.nysm.nysed.gov/common/nysm/files/motorcycle_industry_... Which mentions that it was billed as covering "up to 100 miles to a gallon of gasoline at up to 25 miles per hour"

swanq Thank you for the information. I'm note sure anyone would ride a long distance on such a vehicle. I'm tempted to think these postman were a bit like the bicycle messengers carrying small loads of urgent mail between corporate offices.
