    Wonderful image! Is this the departure for London? The 'Asturias' sailed for London at 11am (11:40 by the Customs House clock!) on Saturday 21/3/1908. Passenger list etc - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/14947996 . - "Included in the cargo are: 26,000 bxs butter, 450 bls wool, 150bls leather, and over 20,000 cases of apples from Hobart." The apples fetched from 6/3 (six shillings and threepence) per case in London in May - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/14944118

    beachcomber australia A ship with an interesting career :) It appears that this vessel was in at least Sydney twice during March 1908 & checking newspapers and the Daily Commercial News and Shipping the times are not often noted unfortunately. In regards to whether it is arriving or departing, could go either way! Due to it’s trimming being just a bit high in the bows (see waterline position), maybe the coal supplies are down, in which case its coming in. Gangways are out (but could be being stowed) and there is loose cargo at the edge of the wharf which would suggest it is there to be loaded - however none of this answers the question with certainty! The educated guess from the folks here is that the vessel is arriving which may make it 7 March 1908.

    Located on the north-western corner of Victoria and Macalister Streets. The site is presently occupied by the modern Whitsunday Hotel. The original Vulcan Hotel was advertised by James Robb s being on this site and the hotel's name appeared to be changed to the "Victoria" by Robert Neill. The original Victoria Hotel was destroyed by fire on Friday 3 September 1897. It was rebuilt and badly damaged in the 1918 Cyclone.
