Spitfire XVI (SL721) loaned by Woodson K. Woods. On display for 6 years until museum acquired their own. Stuka was 70% scale reproduction, eventually returned to its owners also. Me-109 suspended upside-down is a wooden mock-up. Painted in Erich Hartmann's colors.

Indicative of how museum appeared in 1980. Handwritten signs hanging on aircraft. No showcases or mannequins yet. Only barriers around aircraft were the 8-ft hinged 'trip bars' containing fluorescent tubes behind red translucent strips. Easily moved to accommodate respotting the exhibit floor. White DSA miniplane was the first suspended display not on a wall winch.

Reproduction of Curtiss-built "Little Looper" for daredevil Lincoln Beachey. First pilot to successfully 'loop the loop' in an aircraft. The Looper was first museum aircraft to go atop a full-swivel castered kiosk: allowing room for graphics below and easy respotting on the floor, while raising the aircraft high enough for visitors to walk under the wings unimpeded.
