A giant of the skyways poises for flight, Langley Field, Va. The four powerful engines of a YB-17 bomber are warmed up before a takeoff (LOC)

While we see only three of the four ostensibly warmed-up engines, it is clear that at least one of them - starboard inboard - isn't running at all... :) Looks like an A-20 in the background on the right - not sure what is in the background on the left - a Ventura perhaps?

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called B-17 Flying Fortress, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.

Interesting shot, I never realised that any YB17's remained in service during the war years. Interesting to see that nose turret arrangement. The aircraft to the left is a Douglas B18 Bolo, a bomber based on the DC-2 transport aircraft. The B17 and B18 were designed to the same specification, so it's interesting to see the two in the same shot.
