how timely!- my best day at the Horse Show was the day the Leaving cert results came out --it was a Thursday; "Ladies Day"--and we phoned the school from a call box near the show rings-- we all got good news!

This looks like so much fun. I noticed the hats right away. I wonder how much those behemoths weighed?

Doubled as sunshades or umbrellas! And not a "Fascinator" in sight... :)

Angela Orlando I'd say a fair few birds died to provide the feathers...

    Haughey looks pleased...

Peter, I thought that Haughey handled that very well at the time, he is quite deadpan here but he spoke and acted very magnanimously. It really is one of those that all us snappers would love to have taken!

Nice Photo ( back then ) Glad she won. Most likely a good President of a great Land.

As a twelve year old girl, at the time, I was so happy she won. The hard-hearted grumpy old cynic that I am now would say "but what difference does it make - it's only a ceremonial role." At the time though she seemed so vibrant and optimistic compared to all the old grey men in grey suits. It was definitely the first time I took any interest in politics. So thanks NLI, for putting me in touch with my inner idealist if only for a moment. And thanks Mrs Robinson.

Sheba78 Yes, if this hadn't been a November shot, I could have called it "Here's to you, Mrs Robinson"! :) And you should always bring your inner idealist out for a walk every now and then...

Mystery of the Missing Minerva! Turns out she now lives under the Anglesea Stand...

I'm going to be kicking myself if I can't remember where I've seen this before. The exam hall in Trinity, maybe?
  • derangedlemur said:
Nope. That's some bloke or other.

derangedlemur She must be somewhere. Maybe inside one of the RDS buildings?
  • derangedlemur said:
National Library of Ireland on The Commons Not necessarily. She might have got dropped and broken, except that I'm pretty sure I've seen her somewhere. Apparently not BOI, RHK, the Customs House or Dublin Castle, though, to name but a few.

I wonder did she fetch up on some church or other?
