    Adrian Midgley The oldest (or second oldest) ski club in the world was started in Kiandra, Australia. It still exists as the Kiandra Pioneers Ski Club but its original name was the Kiandra Snowshoe Club. Skis were called snowshoes in Australia in those days.

    These women were riders in the 'ladies only' race at the 1936 Yass Picnic Races... trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/160637099 - this pic appeared in the Sydney Mail on 18th March, 1936... 'WAITING FOR THEIR HORSES. Misses Heffernan, Joan Horsley, Peggy Robertson (rode the winner 'Murtha') , Elizabeth McFarlane, Ailsa Robertson. The girls showed excellent control over their charges' - the Sydney Mail's caption... trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/104228560 - the Land, 20th March, 1936...the Land's version... The Land's caption also has the same names, L-R: Nedra Heffernan ; Joan Horsley ; Peggy Robertson ; Elizabeth McFarlane ; Ailsa Robertson.
