OK the kids' clothes seem more winter-like, so I guess it is taken in winter or fall rather than spring or summer? or is it simply a standard uniform back then?

Just normal clothes for the times. They are in their bare feet. It would be cold there at the best of times and I would not have walked the bridge as it was then. I hope those boys were well paid to pose out there. It was put up for the salmon fishermen to get to the island. I wouldn't be sure but I doubt it was the tourist attraction then as it is now.

Definitely Summer, note flowers to left of bridge behind boy facing camera.

That's how I remember it the first time I crossed it, except there was a hand-rope on both sides instead of just the left.
