HMCS Provider was commissioned in 1963, so this photograph should be later. She was built in Quebec and eventually scrapped in Turkey as described here. I see that she visited England in 1969.

There is a head stone in Hebburn cemetery for a Canadian seaman, Bruno joseph Turcotte who died on 16th June 1964, so she must of been in the Tyne then.

Looks like an RCN Oiler Replenishment ship to me , the RN didn't use this font

A tugboat on the Tyne

  • stick1949 said:
That is not a tug, its the Shields Ferry "South Shields" coal fired steam recip which was in service from 1911 -1968. Ellerman Lines "City of Wellington" in the background is in Brigham & Cowans drydock.

Titan II

  • stick1949 said:
The Titan was a floating crane. Shipped out to India with some of the yard swan neck cranes and the floating dock in May 2009. There is a very sad video showing the heavy lift ship Osprey leaving the Tyne with the Titan on board at www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GJsiDLIG9g.
