USS Crowninshield (DD–134) was a Wickes class destroyer in the United States Navy between World War I and World War II. She was named for Benjamin Williams Crowninshield. In World War II she was transferred to the Royal Navy where she was named HMS Chelsea, and subsequently to the Soviet Navy where she was named Derzkiy.

An O'Dea shot with a difference here! While O'Dea's great love was the railways he had an eye for a shot and in this case the visit of two naval vessels to Dublin.

322 was the HMCS Lauzon , 305 the La Hulloise. 317 was the Cap de la Madeleine . All three were Prestonian class frigates (converted from River class) of the Royal Canadian Navy, and saw service during WW2 as escorts in the Atlantic. All four ships can be seen at the quay in the second photo.

The "Crow's Nest", the RCN Magazine from 1963 has a nice description of the event "Friendly Dublin" (starting page 5): ASK ANY MAN of the Ninth Escort Squadron to name his favourite liberty port, and the chances are he'll name Dublin, Ireland. Unless, of course, he says "Eire" instead of Ireland, just to prove he was really there one sparkling morning of last July when five frigates of Cortron Nine steamed up the River Liffey.
