    I think the photo must be of the west end of the tunnel due to the locomotive's shadow on the right. It is confusing because the old original line of the railway was superseded in 1919. More here - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picton_%E2%80%93_Mittagong_loop_rai...

    The State Library of Victoria has a version of this image by William Hetzer dated 1866, ie this is before the tunnel's opening. Their copy includes the title -
