This photo (and accompanying photo below) depects the aftermath of the crash of the prototype Fokker F.32 (NX124M; c/n 1201) in Carle Place, Long Island at the intersection of Westbury Ave. and Jamaica Boulevard on November 27, 1929. Miraculously, no one aboard he aircraft or on the ground was killed in the accident. The aircraft was demonstrating a three-engine (out of the F.32's four) take-off from nearby Roosevelt Field when an additional engine failed, causing the aircraft to crash. See: aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19291127-0 www.flickr.com/photos/sdasmarchives/33942303820/in/album-... Here is British Pathe newsreel footage taken soon after the crash occurred, showing the wreckage and the fire it caused being fought: YouTube: British Pathé - "A Peril That Will Increase When We All Fly Aka A Peril That Evil (1929)" UPDATE (Jan 2021) - As per the Wikipedia entry regarding the aircraft type and this crash, in particular: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fokker_F-32
This crash was witnessed by famous American poet Ogden Nash, who wrote of it to his then-fiancée Frances (later his wife). Nash's account is found in Loving Letters from Ogden Nash: A Family Album, edited by Linell Nash Smith (Nash's daughter).
