Boeing Model 40-Y NC381 c/n 1095 The sole 40-Y was a custom conversion of a 40-B airframe built for the Standard Oil Company of California. It had a cabin for two passengers and two open cockpits with dual controls. Powerplant was a 525 hp Pratt & Whitney Hornet radial engine, it had a balanced rudder and a tail-wheel. NC381 was turned over to the customer on December 9, 1928, and made its first flight the following day.

This photo (and accompanying photo below) depects the aftermath of the crash of the prototype Fokker F.32 (NX124M; c/n 1201) in Carle Place, Long Island at the intersection of Westbury Ave. and Jamaica Boulevard on November 27, 1929. Miraculously, no one aboard he aircraft or on the ground was killed in the accident. The aircraft was demonstrating a three-engine (out of the F.32's four) take-off from nearby Roosevelt Field when an additional engine failed, causing the aircraft to crash.
