This photograph shows the modified dome that was added to the Capitol during the Civil War era, at the same time that new House and Senate chambers were also constructed. Credit should be given above to the American architect Thomas Ustick Walter, who designed the dome and the expanded wings of the building. Susan Barsy, PhD
