U.S. President William Howard Taft seated at back right of his automobile. He bought this automobile between his election and his innauguration to use as his official car; it was a 1909 White Motor Company Model M 40 horse-power steam 7 passenger touring car. I've read that the car is preserved at the Heritage Plantation Museum in Sandwich, Massachusetts. The chauffer is presumbably Taft's driver George Robinson. This automobile is a Pierce-Arrow, not a White steamer. They have very different shaped hoods and radiators, and the name "Pierce-Arrow is visible on the rear hub cap of this one.

Technogeo: Yes, you're quite right. Since my earlier comment, I discovered that Taft ordered 2 Whites AND 2 Pierce-Arrows before taking office. hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/ggbain.03212 shows one of the White steamers; this is one of the Pierce-Arrows. I think the other Pierce-Arrow is shown at hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/ggbain.03213 .
