from MajorCalloway EDIT This photo is dated September 23rd 1908 - the room is very similar to our picture above. Note the antlers over the left hand door in our photo, was it broken (and replaced or repaired) before or after this picture? Closer to 1908 than 1890 I would guess?

Some of the muskets are tagged but nothing else seems to be. Curious.

Funnily I think the manmade objects in the foreground take from the view. It is a beautifully well taken photograph and each on its own would look well but the one does not rhyme with the other IMO!

Swordscookie Oooh, controversial! ;) I actually like the juxtaposition of the tamed versus wild landscape. But what I really like is that the photo wasn't taken from the most obvious spot - directly in the middle of the steps down to the water, but skew-whiff instead...

Have snapped that view myself a few times. It's difficult to capture the (manicured) foreground and (natural) background sympathetically. Though it looks smashing in real life. (On first visit I remember being intrigued when reading in the brochure blurb that those winged horses in the middle-ground are made in - of all things - zinc!)

This is paradise. I wonder if they skated on the pond in the winter.
