Dr. Josef Goricar (b. 1873) originally from Pressberg in Styria, resigned from the Austro-HUngarian Consular Service in December 1914; in November 1915, he gave a statement to the Providence Journal, claiming that there were German and Austrian spies throughout the US. Obviously the same Ritter who affirmed to have received USD 400 from Ernst (Ernest) Ludwig, the Austrian consul at Cleveland, for affidavits charging that the liner Lusitania carried guncotton when sunk. (The New York Times, December 3, 1915)
