    Today, you never see a MLB player choke up this much on the bat, but back in the old days, everyone did it. Choking up on the bat allows better control....easier to make contact and to direct the ball easier. The ball was "dead" and it was very hard to hit it over the fence. Hence, batters tried to "hit 'em where they ain't."
