Oriental Hotel and grounds

The Oriental Hotel was one of two famous New York luxury hotels built by Austin Corbin - the other was the Manhattan Beach Hotel. Corbin built the Oriental Hotel, which faced Sheepshead Bay, in 1883, and reorganized an existing railroad construction project to become the New York and Manhattan Beach Railway Co. to serve the two hotels. He was later the head of the Long Island Railroad. The Oriental was demolished in 1916. (Info from here and there on the Internet.)
