Peckwater Quad, Oxford. I think it must be this east side, enjoying "after a luncheon" sunshine. The graffiti has been cleaned up! ...

The Hon. M. Ponsonby at right could be Maurice John George Ponsonby later 4th Baron de Mauley of Canford

Wow, the morbid looking gent bottom left is F. G. Vyner. Per thepeerage, Frederick Grantham Vyner... He died on 21 April 1870 at age 23 at Greece, murdered by brigands.

A bit about it here: The captives were not treated poorly. Another Old Etonian, Frederick Grantham Vyner, reportedly ran races and tossed boulders with his captors.

There's only 10 blokes in this football side - looks like the goalie had gone missing. Or perhaps he'd been sent off even before the game had begun. I like the guy far right in the back row. Looks like he wanted to disown the rest of the side. The sunshine throws unfortunate light on all their paunches, but they look a tough crowd and I wouldn't have fancied playing them.
