This might be of interest ... photos of Hollywood star Douglas Fairbanks, Snr visiting Foynes in 1939. Apparently a young JFK was in the plane as well [http://www.flickr.com/photos/ngmcd/sets/72157623815287102/]

The aircraft on the left,G-ADHK, is the Short S.21 "Maia", which was used to carry the smaller S.20 seaplane (named "Mercury") piggy-back style. The aircraft in the background is another Short flying boat (but not "Mercury").

And some more interesting ART trivia.. text from " The Victorian Web" This statue by Jones replaced Matthew Cotes Wyatt's gigantic — and much criticized — equestrian statue of Wellington that was taken down and not replaced when the arch moved from its first location opposite Apsley House to Hyde Park Corner in 1882-83. The Angel of Peace Descending on the Chariot of War takes the form of a quadriga (a racing chariot with four horses used in both the ancient Olympic Games in Greece and later in ancient Rome). Since classical times, the quadriga has served as an emblem of victory, . _____ . www.victorianweb.org/sculpture/jones/2.html George P.
