    Cool folk art born from necessity. Yes, there is a dwelling in the background. The structure was probably built to protect the house during major rain events.

    Interesting that this photographer took so many pictures of this mine. It is really an ugly blotch on this beautiful area--unless you count the gold it produced. Now it's just part of the history. The colors in this photograph seem better preserved than the rest.
