Hopefully the (apparent) change today to the Flickr UI doesn't affect the commentary on this brilliant shot. I passed through this junction twice a day for many years - and yet it looks at once very different (delightfully so) and so familiar. Am loving the sidecar. Obligatory Google StreetView with the (oft derided and appallingly brutalist) shopping centre. A more recent movement might hopefully bring Phibsboro back in the direction of this near idyllic Eason shot :)

The hat of the presumed Garda suggests that he is not a DMP constable, which points to post-independence. Yet there are no cars or evidence of cars, and the sidecar attached to the motorbike looks very very old, The straw boater on the man at the corner suggests mid-20s at the latest although the ladies dresses seem to indicate much earlier. Hmmm...

BultacoFan And yet, the Daily Mail news poster speaks of the "British Fleet" and (I think) the "Kaiser". This one's going to be a goodie (technical term)! A "Finance Bill" in the Irish Times - it was ever thus. And I think the Freeman's Journal is exercised about an Imperial Congress? I should have gone to Specsavers!
