Are you sure this was taken by Phelps? I know Phelps took quite a few images of this wreck, but they are all labeled differently than this image. Additionally none of his images that I have seen (of this wreck) are sepia toned.

Hi JoniMakesStuff, In early train wreck imagery, X's were used to indicate where injured people were found following the wreck. That may be what the x's indicate. Best, Effie

General Minier built the Rogues' Harbor Inn (then the Central Exchange Hotel) in Lansing NY from 1830- 1836 We've been searching for a portrait of him for many years... Eastman House & Google you have made our day!!!
