Alexandra Feodorovna (Russian: Императрица Александра Фёдоровна, Imperatritsa Aleksandra Fyodorovna) (6 June 1872 – 17 July 1918), was Empress consort of Russia as the spouse of Nicholas II, the last Emperor of the Russian Empire. Born as Alix of Hesse and by Rhine, was granddaughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. It looks as though the tiara survived and is in the first photo in this blog post: maries-jewels-royals.blogspot.ca/2014/02/russian-imperial... The tiara was apparently made by Bolin, a court jeweler.

The photo at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandra_Feodorovna_%28Alix_of_Hes... is in the same dress and jewels. That is another Bain photo. Someone other than LoC has dated it 1908 and identified the photographer as Boasson and Eggler St. Petersburg Nevsky 24. That date is found on a copy signed by the empress seen at www.romanovrussia.com/Signature_Autograph_Photograph_Empr... Her husband abdicated in March 1917. From the Wikipedia article: "On 12 March soldiers sent to suppress the rioting crowds mutinied and joined the rebellion, thus providing the spark to ignite the February Revolution (like the later October Revolution of November 1917, the Russian Revolutions of 1917 get their names due to the Old Style calendar). Soldiers and workers set up the "Petrograd Soviet" of 2,500 elected deputies while the Duma declared a Provisional Government on 13 March. Alexander Kerensky was a key player in the new regime. The Duma informed the tsar that day that he must abdicate. In an effort to put an end to the uprising in the capital, Nicholas tried to get to St Petersburg by train from army headquarters at Mogiliev. The route was blocked so he tried another way. This is a date printed on the back of the print (11/5/14). 11 is the day/5 is the month/ and 14 for 1914. This is the european form of writing writing dates.

The handwritting of the scratched date is quite alike than other George Bain photos. If the scrateched date is mirror turned, it is likely 11/7/14. And if it was scratched by Bain it would say November 7, 1914. Dr. Roberto Duarte Plastic Surgeon
