    Thanks nudecowboy for identifying the family members by name. A photograph in our Harris and Ewing Collection, entitled "Russian Royal Family..." looks like it was taken during the same sitting, and is dated 1914.

    definition of Czarewitch is the eldest son of the Czar.

    And its "Czarovitch". I thought at first this was Alexei Romanov, who would be gunned down along with his entire family by the Bolsheviks in 1918. However, comparing it to this photo: i81.photobucket.com/albums/j231/Alexei-7/alex.jpg It doesn't appear to be him.
