Charles A. Oberwager was a New York lawyer who is mentionned in connection with several trials in the newspapers.

According to New-York tribune., May 05, 1917, Page 16, column 3, he was prominent in many sorts of German-American affairs and was appointed attorney of the Labor's National Peace Council. In the von Rintelen trial he was counsel for one of Rintelen's co-defendants, Jacob L. Taylor.

Jacob L. Taylor then is possibly the other man in the photo.

He and his wife were law partners, and they had two children. Later, their son Edwin served as a Justice of the New York Supreme Court (according to www.nywba.org/documents/NYWBAfounders.pdf)

On the other hand, a Jacob C. Taylor of East Orange, N.J., President of the Peace Council, is mentonned in The New York Times, December 30, 1915 together with David Lamar, „the Wolf of Wall Street“ and Charles A. Oberwager. Oberwager was Taylor's lawyer and Taylor was obviously paroled. According to The New York Times, May 18, 1917, the Labor's National Peace Council was alleged to have been an instrument created by Captain Franz von Rintelen and David Lamar to carry on the German propaganda. Confusingly, the former President of the council is named „Jacob A. Taylor“, but it's presumably the same man. B-59: Wow, this is a tricky one! We can certainly expand Oberwager's name, but may retain the current identification of J. C. Taylor until other evidence surfaces to definitively identify him. Thanks for searching!
