  Hiram Sibley Bicket (1881-1941) and Edward Morris, Jr. (1893-1972), of the meatpacking company, Morris & Company. Morris's father founded the company, his son would rise to heading the company after his father's passing in 1913. Bicket and Morris are standing in front of a Curtiss Oriole aircraft. See: Wikipedia - Morris & Company This same photo is featured in The National Provisioner, Vol. 63, No. 12, September 18, 1920, Page 149, with the caption, "Morris and Hiram Bicket ready to fly to New York after the convention." The "convention" referred to is the "Fifteenth Annual Convention of the Institute of American Meat Packers," held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, from September 13-15, 1920.

  I'd be interested in knowing if the designation as "German packing house" indicates it to be located in Germany, during WWI, or simply a meat packing operation owned/run/manned by Germans in the USA? Sinclair Lewis published THE JUNGLE in 1906, and sentiments were high over the conditions in that industry, still a political issue in 1915 I'm sure. It looks gross enough to turn anyone into a vegetarian.

  moccasinlanding: The caption "German packing house" was original to the photograph, so the meaning is not altogether clear. However, in browsing other photos filed near this one, there are a number of images taken in Germany, and one related to Doeberitz, a German prisoner of war camp near Berlin. The photos filed nearby in this collection are not always related to each other, but sometimes can offer clues. Without further research, my best guess is that this photo was taken in Germany rather than the U.S.

  Kristi (LOC P&P) Thank you for your response. I believe I saw the one you mention re Doeberitz POW camp. Not sure, but both could be "public relations" efforts to counteract reports of food shortages, especially those related to POWs. Love to keep up with LOC on Flickr.
