Yes a really talented photographer on a mission. The government really had to sell women in the workplace hard during the war. Photos that showed that women could work hard at mens jobs and still be ladies were important in entice more women to enter the workforce and getting men to accept the necessity.

I probably wouldn't be making this comment if I weren't saving a bunch of photos to print for a very young female person -- but if that's a modern vs historic title, it needs to be changed. This worker is not a girl. She's a woman. (And yes, I love these photos. This collection is a treasure.)

Women workers employed as wipers in the roundhouse having lunch in their rest room, C. & N.W. R.R., Clinton, Iowa (LOC)

This is great... I love the other photos of women workers, but this feels so much more truthful

I agree. No lipstick, fancy hairstyles or nice clothes. This photo doesn't have the "staged" feel like most of the other working women photos in this set.

Wow, this one is really something. Easily a favorite.

Wow! The old black & white photos that we mostly see of this era don't convey the beauty of people in that time. She's a beauty. I wish women today took care to dress up like this before they go into work.

Unusual wooden pin with red lips, might be african or carribean? It just reflects the red on her lips as well and against the red vest looks great.
