Papermills are the smelliest places on earth. I grew up southeast of Lufkin.

Smells like money to me. I worked there 18 years before Abitibi pulled the plug. These photos remind of when I was younger and I did a job I loved.

My father, Edward Dewey Simmons, worked for Southland Paper Mill in 1945 in Chireno, Tx in charge of one of the cc camps. He is now deceased. The prisioners cut wood in that area. I have a painting that was painted by one of the prisioners and was wondering what happened to him. It is hard for me to decipher the name..It looks like Rhulq 1945. I worked in this mill for 18 years. Sadly, nothing left now but rubble. Shut down 18 Feb 2004.
