    Unlikely a Caproni bomber given the part of the fuselage that is visible is in the irregular German camouflage system.

    Kees Kort Agreed. Given the lozenge camouflage, this is almost certainly a German aircraft. Combined with what appears to be the folded down gun shield (the device made up of thin metal bars on top of the fuselage), It appears that this likely is the fuselage of a captured/surrendered German AEG G.IV bomber.     Fokker DVII (OAW) 8508 parked in front of Hangar 8 at Mather Field, California on 14 April 1919. Maj. Carl Spatz flew this machine over Sacramento on that day, and that is presumably him in the cockpit. On 16 May 1919, it was one of the airplanes paraded through the streets of Los Angeles to promote the Memorial Day air show that was to be held two day later at De Mille Field, Hollywood.

    1st Lieut. George H. Belser, a Fokker pilot, doffs his hat for the photo on April 11, 1919, at Sykes Field, just north of Hanging Moss Creek, north of Jackson, MS. They had recently unloaded their airplanes at the Tougaloo siding (note the railroad embankment behind them) and mechanics are assembling Fokker D.VII 8538 for that afternoon's air show. Note SE-5a C8745 being assembled behind him. This was the VLFC Mid-West Flight's first air show on their tour of the Midwest.
