Perhaps Mr. Loomis of the railroads?

Edward E. Loomis, president of the Lehigh Valley Railroad. [Also a trustee of the estate of Mark Twain (Samuel L. Clemens)].

I think he looks a bit like Ciarán Hinds in Sum of All Fears, or the other way around I guess.

There was a Judge John L. Stevens of Boone, Iowa, according to query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=940CE6DD1630E233A... A John L. Stevens was commodore of the New York Yacht Club in 1851 according to: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9F01E5DB113FE633A... and another John L. Stevens was a diplomat who conspired to overthrow the Queen of Hawaii in 1893, and died in 1895. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_L._Stevens Only the first seems a candidate based on the period of the Bain photos. This is Judge John Loomis Stevens who was as well a candidate for governor of Iowa. My G G Grandfather.

@Swang, Teddy Roosevelt's last campaign was in 1912, when he ran for President on the Progressive Party "Bull Moose" ticket. In 1914, he was recuperating after his return from a months-long, near-fatal journey through the Amazon wilderness, exploring the River of Doubt.

@carrierasmussen Hi Carrie, We've run across each other on Ancestry as well. Judge John Loomis Stevens was aslo my GG Grandfather. As to the posts about Teddy Roosevelt. I remember seeing a picture of Teddy Roosevelt on his horse at their home in Iowa. It was in a photo albumm of my Grandfather John Stevens Scott. I also know they had some affiliation with Boone IA.
