I can't see the Pratt's ad, but I think 1890 is too early if we're talking about Pratt's Motor Spirit. The very earliest Irish motor cars (as he have seen previously) were around 1900..

Dog!!

Niall McAuley I had given up on the daily search for the Dog, I was beginning to think nobody cared!!!

Possible Webbs in 1901. The building form says 7 windows to the front, which looks right.

In 1911, that building is a Public House, so this is earlier than that (not much help!).

My grandfather was an inspector on the trams, but I have a feeling he started out as a conductor. A bit of a stretch, but it might even be him centre frame. Great photo.

In the foreground are white lines painted on the cobblestones, or they could be white stones set into the road. Is this a first for these old NLI photos?

Couldn't find any mention of the name Retz in the census for 1901 or 1911, but have found the phone number for George Retz, Pork Butcher, in the 1913 phone directory.
