Van der Werff was the mayor of Leyden during the siege in 1573-1574. The park could be created because a powder ship exploded in 1807, devastating a large area of the city.

The windmill to the left most likely is the 'Overveerpolder', near the 'Warmonderhek' in Warmond. Not far away from the 'Schuttersveld', military parade ground in Leiden. This particular windmill ceased to exist around 1930. Almost the same picture, in a lesser quality, can be found in the archives of the Dutch Windmill Database Organisation ( www.molendatabase.nl ). See at their website in the section of 'Database van verdwenen molens in Nederland' under 'DB nr' # 3536 to convince yourself. (this information has been made available by the help of mr L. Location, indeed, most likely, the 'Schuttersveld', with in the background the 'Marislaan'.
Affirmative that the windmill in question is the, still existing and now museum, 'Molen De Valk'.

The churchtower left from the middle is of the 'Marekerk'.

The building at the left hand side should be, the 'Leidsche Coöperatieve Melkinrichting 'De Landbouw' ' (Milk factory), established 1879, at the 'Rijnsburgersingel' number 23.
