Het Nieuwe Instituut beheert een van de grootste architectuurcollecties ter wereld. Ongeveer 500 archieven en verzamelingen van Nederlandse architecten, stedenbouwkundigen, beroepsverenigingen en opleidingen over de periode 1850-1980 worden ontsloten en voor publiek toegankelijk gemaakt. Het Nieuwe Instituut is ontstaan uit een fusie van het Nederlands Architectuurinstituut, Premsela, Nederlands Instituut voor Design en Mode, en Virtueel Platform, kennisinstituut voor e-cultuur.
